Naturist or Clothing Optional?

A holiday at Charente Soleil is essentially a naturist experience. Our guests are naturists and between May and September we do not accept bookings from totally non-naturist groups.

From October to April we do let our accommodation to "textiles". If you would like to stay with us on a non-naturist basis during this period then please visit our other web site using the link on our links page.

During the summer we aim for a family atmosphere where clothing is an optional accessory. Most visitors prefer to be un-clothed as much of the time as possible but if one or two members of your party feel more comfortable wearing clothes some or all of the time (typically teenage children) then that's fine with us as long as they don't object if we and other naturist guests prefer to sunbathe and swim "au-naturel".

We do not have rules about dressing or un-dressing for meals, the pool or anything else. Dress however feels comfortable - It's your holiday!

Long-standing naturists and members of BN, we live on site to give you a warm welcome and ensure your stay is a memorable one.

John & Maria:

"Blazing sun, wild thunderstorms and an excellent pool to cool off in - What more can you want"

Heated Pool

The in-ground pool is 10m long by 5m wide. It's "leisure" profile means there is no "deep" end - It is 1m deep all around the sides and 1.6m deep in the middle. This makes it ideal for both the less confident swimmer and also for pool games.

Both the pool and the shower are solar-heated so there is no need to shiver even early or late in the season. Under-water lighting allows night-time swimming if you wish.

Steve & Judy:

"Everything we could have needed for a wonderful holiday"

Grounds

Secluded courtyardCharente Soleil was originally part of a large farm and wine growing estate. Indeed the wine press and fermentation vats are still in place. The buildings are arranged around a large and secluded courtyard and include 3 houses, several barns and the winery (or "chai").

The courtyard is a real suntrap and is the ideal spot for dining outside or simply soaking up the sun. It has been warm enough for sunbathing as early as February.

There are over 2 acres of grounds. A gateway from the courtyard leads to the communal gardens and swimming pool. The pool terrace provides ample space for sun beds, patio tables etc. The whole area is secluded and sheltered thus providing the ideal spot for naturist sunbathing and soaking up the Charente sunshine. Naturist boules court

This area also includes a purpose built boules (petanque) court - We have sets of boules for you to use so everyone can have a go at this traditional French game.

For a quieter spot, the orchard provides some welcome shade from the mid-day sun. All of these areas are suitably secluded for obtaining an all-over tan.

Shopping

French marketThe nearest village is about 3 km (less if you walk or cycle down the country lanes) and can provide for most needs. There are two bakers, two bars, a butcher, supermarket, post office, tobacconist, pharmacy, greengrocers and hairdresser.

Banks are in the towns of Mansle, La Rochefoucauld and Chasseneuil which are a 10 to 20 minute drive, have a larger selection of shops and also have markets once or twice a week. Angouleme (30 minutes) has department stores and everything else you would expect to find in a city.

We sometimes have home-produce for sale (eggs, vegetables etc).
