2010 Cultural and other Special Events

Do you want a bit of cultural or sporting entertainment during your holiday? If you can drag yourself away from the pool then there is plenty going on.

Angoulême is known as the "City of Festivals". There are both major international and more local events throughout the region during most months of the year. The diversity is enormous with everything from vintage car races to world music and dance. There is bound to be something to suit whatever your tastes.

January

Festival International de la Bande Dessinée - Angoulême

35th annual international fesival of comics. Angouleme is the international capital of comic books, strip cartoons and related arts. The festival includes shows, exhibitions, competitions and many other events and attracts around 250,000 visitors each year.

May

Musiques Métisses - Angoulême

Salsa, reggae, rumba ... 3 days of latin american, caribbean and african music concerts.

May 21st to 23rd 2010

July

Hot Air Balloon Festival

35,000 visitors watch these spectacular displays in a unique setting amongst the Charente vineyards. The event not only includes competitions for the mens european and ladies world cups but also many other flying displays - Vintage aircraft, Christian MOULLEC and his geese, UTTERLY BUTTERLY acrobatic team, Apache helicopters and the Moroccan and French national air-dispaly teams.
