La Chouette (The Barn Owl) is a firm favourite with our returning guests who value the space (70 m2) and the first floor shady terrace with its view over the surrounding countryside.
The house is 300 years old and is a traditional design for an artisan's or farmer's house in this area. It has a wealth of original features and has been renovated to a high standard.
There is a double and a triple bedroom - It accommodates 5 very comfortably and with a sofa bed in the living room this can be increased to 7 if necessary.
First Floor
The entrance is via a flight of stone steps that leads to the shady covered terrace which provides protection should the midday sun be a bit too much for you. Here you will find a teak table and chairs and a BBQ for those long summer evenings.
The front door opens into the spacious living room with exposed beams and a solid chestnut wood floor.
There is a large traditional stone Charentaise fireplace complete with modern wood-burning stove - very cosy if the occasional early or late season evening is a bit chilly. The kitchen area is comprehensively equipped and includes a gas cooker with oven and grill, combined refrigerator/freezer and a microwave.
The dining table comfortably seats 6 and there are two sofas in the sitting area, either of which will convert to make an extra double bed.
The modern flat-screen TV receives UK channels (BBC, ITV, Ch4 etc.) via satellite and non-subscription French terrestrial digital channels.
Second Floor
Stairs lead from the living room to the landing off which are the two bedrooms and the bathroom.
The bathroom has a full sized bath with shower over.
Bedroom 1 is a double.
Bedroom 2 has 3 single beds. Both rooms have original oak beams and exposed stone walls and are equipped with convector heaters.
We provide all bedding and also bath and hand towels. Additional equipment includes a clothes airer, ironing board and iron. There is a radio/CD player but please bring your own CDs (our musical taste may not be to your liking!).
